Abstract:
Selecting application software which fits the requirements of a firm is an activity of strategic importance. Thus, various approaches to software selection exist in extant literature. However, these approaches do not sufficiently incorporate current business requirements such as agile and lean principles. Furthermore, a crucial factor in information systems is neglected: people. This paper proposes a framework for selecting application systems, integrating previous work and extending it with agile principles as well as putting a spotlight on employees, promoting their integration in the selection process. The framework was evaluated and successfully validated in a single case study in a firm from the finance industry. The paper contributes to the knowledge base of software selection with a framework reflecting the requirements of today’s firms and can be a guide to these companies in selecting software in practice.
